McNeal was one of 150 players in the camp and he shined garnering a vote in the the camps all-star game that only included the top 20 players in the camp. From the camp, he was nationally ranked 10th overall and #2 at the shooting guard position. Chris made his invitational camp debut this summer @ the Adidas Deep South All-American in Baton Rouge where he was the youngest player their. Chris was selected with select 15&under players from the Memphis Magic where he held his own against hihg school players.
CBL 8th-9th Grade Division

Game 1 Yellow Jackets Vs Tigers

Jemerio Jones led all scorers with 15 points at the Yellow Jackets routed the Tigers, 64-39. The Yellow Jackets who also got 13 from Raleigh Egypt 9th grader Fatodd Lewis, appear to have the most talented team in their division and will be very hard to beat but that doesn’t mean they won’t. Rayford Albright led the Tigers in scoring with 14.

Game 2 Volunteers Vs Cardinals

In another lopsided affair, the Volunteers led by Dennis Price with 10 points got a 20 point win over the Cardinals, 49-29. Although, they took the loss, Ladarius Chester appears to be poised to make a claim as a top 15 player in his class with his superior athleticism but he must continue to work on his jumper. A player who I haven’t heard much of, Darrall Willis, caught my eye with his shotblocking ability and rebounding ability. He’s nasty and a big time talker and he seems to love to compete. The 6′5 forward with probably a 6′8-6′9 wing span could be a sleeper among his peers. If he has a good season, watch him for him to be ranked among the top 9th graders. Remember Willis from Woodale High School. By the way, for those that don’t know, Chris Chiozza, he maybe the best point guard in that class and thats saying a lot with Tim Shaw, Tony Becton and others in his class. Chiozza at times appears to have eyes in the back of head and has that special it factor “vision” which makes him elite. I think he could be a special player at Bartlett in the coming years.

The first weekend of the CBL is in the books and while I was unable to watch a majority of the action on Sunday, I did however see all the action on Sunday afternoon. In the 5th and 7th Grade Division, the first game of the day pitted the Tigers against the Wildcats in a game that saw the Tigers trail for a large part of the game until a driving baseline lay-up by Darrel Brown put his team up by 1 with 17 seconds left in the game. After two missed free throws by Tigers, the Wildcats regained possession with 6 seconds left but a turnover gave the Tigers one last chance for a win and they took advantage of it. A lay-up by Nate Vaugh with no time remaining proved to be the difference for a 1 point victory for the Tigers, 53-52

Game 2

The Pharoahs found themselves on the losing end in another game that came down the wire. Antoine Bell who scored 20 points in the game found himself the recpient of pass after a steal from Highland Oaks 7th Grader, Cameron Taylor who has really improved over the last year. The final score, 42-41 Mustangs.

Week 1: Players To Watch

James Babb- Pharaohs - Center Hill Middle -7th Grader - Another player that I was impressed by with is improvements of the last year or so. At 6′0 maybe 6′1, Babb is a rebounder who keeps the ball up high when its touches his hands thus making him not as succeptible to turning it over like a lot of young post players. Offensively, he is getting better and better, converting lay-ups. He runs the floor well and doesn’t give up on rebounds. Once kind of awkward, Babb seems to be coming into his own as a player to watch in his class.

Antoine Bell-Mustangs- Raleigh Egypt Middle-7th Starter at Raleigh Egypt as a 6th grader last, Bell is small but don’t let that fool you. He can shoot it and shoot it well and for a player his size, he can get his shot off the dribble and get the basket. I always find myself watching his games because he is fun to watch and when he gets it going, he can go for 20 points like he did Sunday.

Cameron Taylor-Mustangs- Highland Oaks Middle 2-3 type of player who’s confidence in his game is starting to show and he’s making his self noticed. Taylor is always on the attack and is aggresive on defense and he will not back down from a challenge including guarding the biggest players on the floor. I want to see him improve his shooting but that will come because now he has the itch and he could turn into one of the better players in the city.

After recieving the the award as the best 6th grader in the camp, Neloms showed why he is one of the rising players in the country in his age. Neloms is an above average shooter with the ability to knock down 3-4 long ones in a row and he can drive in both directions. He is a pretty good defender and was one of the best guards in the camp at getting steals from behind from players thinking they had clear paths to the basket. After a making a name for himself at the camp, Neloms is on the map nationally.

A lot of people say Hayden may follow in the foot steps of his father in football but I really like his future as a basketball player. Toughness is key to his game and he is as quick as any kid in the country. He can score the ball and be so annoying on defense that he makes you wanna give up the ball. I’ve never seen him on the football field but if he’s as good as he is on the basketball court, I know he’s special on the footbal. He has very quick feet for a player his size as he showed on one occassion where he got down and defended a point guard and stole the ball for a uncontested lay in and he can actually handle the ball pretty decent, leading the break off of rebounds and passing to others for lay-up. He had good coordination and he doesn’t mind contact at all. He blocks shot and appears to have the mean streak needed to become a potential pro, yeah I said it, PRO. Trust me, you will hear plenty from him and in my opinion, he is the best player in the country in his class.

Has the genes most definitely as he is the son of a former University Of Kentucky standout, he reminds me so much of Perry Dozier Jr with his shooting ability and calmness that he displays with his immense talent. He can get his shot pretty much whenever he wants and doesn’t mind entering the trees to draw fouls or kiss it off the glass. Like Dozier, sometimes it seems as though he’s going through the motions, then boom, he hits two treys in a row and two pull up jumpers and like that, he’s went on a 10-0 run by himself. I would like to see him work on his one on one skills to become more well rounded otherwise he could be labeled just a shooter.

Seventh Woods 5'11 SG/SF (Defending)

One of the most gifted players athletically that Ive seen in awhile in that age group. Woods is the ultimate 2 guard who’s main goal is to attack and keep attacking and when he gets done doing that, he attacks some more. He got to the rim, slicing and getting past defenders with sometimes effortless ease and finishing with contact for fouls and lay ups. I like the fact that he can finish equally as well with both hands and on some lay ups, he got up like he wanted to dunk it which they say he did in the nationals a few weeks ago where his team won the nationals. He is so agile and fluid that you forget that your watching a 12 yr old player. He has huge potential to be a Scotty Hopson type player but I would like to see him drive it a little more to his right and not solely just to his strong side, left. I also want to see him work on his ball handling as he tends to cross over high which will lead to steals by smaller guards as he gets older.

Aaron Augistin 5'8 PG/SG

You talking about get to the rack, he is the epitomy of that and he does it very well. The Georgia product is straight butter attacking the rim and scoring when he gets their with his quickness that is unmatched by most guards off the dribble. He has a nice frame so I think he could take bigger guards trying to knock him off the ball but their is one thing though, I never really saw him shoot it. When he did, his shots looks pretty good but right now he must improve his consistency from 15 feet. If I were him, I would concentrate on this and maybe add range out to the 3 once that in between J improves. His handle is their right now that will only get better as he continues to get older and work hard. I think he will only get better over time.

Shaquille Dawkins 5'5 PG/SG

California product can fill it up and I mean fill it! The quick elusive guard’s offense mostly comes from the pull up which is a highly effective weapon for him. He makes it look easy at times as he just raises up and puts in defenders mouths. He was probably the best shooting point guard in his classs at the camp. He has good body control once he drives and has the vision to see others for easy baskets on his way to the rim. Sometimes he relys a lot of the jumper but that’s because he shoots so well. If you don’t know Dawkins, say you saw him one 901PrepScoop.com first when he gets on the radar of various D-1 schools across the country.

6. Jared Harper - 5′0 PG Lights out shooter from deep and despite his size, it will be easy to see him as a 20 point scorer on the middle school level for his next two years.

7. Edrice Adebayo - 6′5 PF/C Really raw right now offensively and defensively but that doesn’t mean he can’t turn it around ala Khaleal Turner and become a top 3 player. He is extremely long and he runs the floor like a deer which will probably make him an elilte 3 prospect if he learns to handle it a lil bit to go along with the God given size. Watch out for Adebayo.

8. DevinNewton - 5′7 PG/SG Another Cali player, Newtons fearless dives to the basket made me know his name and put him in the top 10 of the camp. Very wirey players, Newton can also shoot the trey but is right now more a slasher but a really good one at that.

9. Dedric Lawson - 6′1 PF/C Had a productive camp and showed why he will still be a top 10-15 player in his class. Out of all the bigs even though not the biggest anymore, he still has more skill to his game than even Turner. He can put it on the floor and pull up with the jumper, float it or get on the block for baby hooks. Footspeed and lateral quickness still haunt him but make no mistake, he should be in the top 20 for the next 4-5 years.

10.Raekwon Long - 6′10 C Wondering why he is so low? Long has only been playing for about a year, organized but that didn’t stop him from showing great promise. Long is for the most part, a huge young guy who is only beginning a life in basketball. Believe it or not, he has a decent looking shot and even showed the hook in the all-star game which could become a huge weapon for him as he continues to develop. Of course because of his huge feet (size 21) quickness and agility is not his strong suit but he actually moves better than you would think. Before his 10 grade year, maybe even sooner, if he continues to get help on his game, he could be the number 1 guy in this class.

For 3 days, some of the best 6th,7th and 8th graders across the country converged on the Sewanee Sports Complex in Gwinnet Georgia for the Junior All American Camp. From California to Portland Oregon, the talent level was overall pretty good with the best class in my opinion being the 8th grade class their but the 7th grade class wasn’t far behind. From daily classes, lecture by founder Clay Dade and Financial Advisor, Kevin Graves who has clients as such as Evan Turner, Ray Lewis and Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans, not only did they discuss basketball on the court but off it as well. The experience was great for some of the top ballers around the states and not only did I get to see some of the best players in their respective classes, I also got a chance to evaluate them along with members of FullCourtPress.com, GymRatInsider.com out of Atlanta and AllMetroSports.com and other various media outlets.

First up, the top 15 players from the 8th Grade Class (2015)

Check Tomorrow For 7th Grade Class (2016)

#1 Player In The 2015 Class - King Mcclure (Dallas Texas)

Looking for the best overall player in the camp, look no further than this young player. King is his name and rightfully so as he put on a show with drives to the basket, pretty much whenever he wanted how he wanted it and just when I thought he couldn’t score any other way, he calmly dropped treys and just when I thought he was only a shoot treys and get to the basket guy, he showed the mid range game in the all-star game. He can finish with either hand and was probably the most athletic player in the camp. Only thing is, does he pick football or basketball as I hear he is a standout in that as well. Simply put he is a classic Dallas guard in the mold of Willie Warren with a chance to be a high major player he he continues to work on his mid range jumper.

Andrew Franklin - 6'2 SG

Best shooter in the camp, hands down. Not only is Franklin a shooter but he can also score attacking the rim or stop and pull up but he is more comfortable I think, shooting the ball. He plays with high confidence and it was apparent every time he stepped on the floor. He kind of reminds me of former Syracuse guard, Andy Rautins with his sometimes flashly play which can result in careless turnovers. He is most definitely a D-1 prospect already.

Keelon "KJ" Lawson -6'4 G/F

Got a lot of strange looks as he entered the gym partially because some were shocked at how the 5′10 7th grader had turned into a 6′4 8th grader. At his height and to be able to play all 5 positions on the middle school level, his versatility makes him hard to guard for smaller guards and too quick for bigger 4-5 players. When his mid range game is on, he is nearly impossible to guard one on one because of his length over most guards and when he’s really feeling it, he is capable of big scoring games. He could have easily been the number 1 guy their but he must play hard and hard at all times. Once he does this and improves defensively and gets a little quicker, the sky is the limit for him.

Perry Dozier - 5'10 PG/SG

Widely regarded by some as the best player in the country in his class, Dozier no doubt has high and I mean high talent level. He’s an excellent shooter who likes to create his own shot with the step back or just simply pull up on his defender. He is very similar in my opinion to a 2016 player, another highly regarded player, Vijay Blackmon in that he’s never seems rattled by anything. I wanna see him become a little bit more aggressive as a scorer and he has that a little bit but he seems content on scoring when he has too. He is just a silky player who just oozes high major talent and I saw why some say he’s the best player in the country.

William Jackson- 6'3 G

Nice and I mean nice wing prospect out of Georgia with more of a shooters mentality than a scoring one. What stood out to me about him was just how long this kid and his high skill level. Out of the guards in the camp, he probably had the deepest range of them all but he did look comfortable scoring the basketball with the pull up jumper. I don’t know, maybe it was because of the camp and the style of play but he took a lot of 3 pointers when I think he would become even more potent as a weapon with a shot fake and two dribble jumper. Jackson’s talent should keep him in the top 50 for years to come.

6. Jacqualis Matlock- 6′4 PF High energy 4 man with a 3 man body. Long arms, above average rebounder and solid around the basket, Matlock will play some 3 in high school this year which should help him turn into one of the best players in this class. Remember this young guy’s name.

7. Ryan Bay - G/F 6′2 Portand Oregon native, Bay puts me in the mind frame of Chase Budinger of the the Houston Rockets. At 6′2, Bay can stroke the 3 and is a handful for most guard because of his strong build.

8. Elijah Thomas - 6′5 PF/C Big, and I mean big post guy with soft hands and nice touch out of Dallas Texas. He has nimble feet and a nice array of moves around the basket. Think Keith “Tiny” Gallon

9. Ty Hudson - 5′10 PG/SG Hit 3 triples in a row in the all-star proving that he not just a hard nose get to the basket player. He plays with high high energy and is extremely physical from the guard position.

10.Kevin Murphy - 6′3 PF/C Teammate of Hudson from Georgia Worldwide, “Big Murph” is a strong rebounder who must get better offensively but with more work on the block and maybe some ball handling depending on how he grows, he could be a monster.

11. Mikell Lands 5′10 G Best leaper in the camp and is very similar to Mcclure with his outstanding quickness and ability to get to the rack and finish. Question is, what position does he play.

12. Ed Linniger 6′2 PF Old school player who just seems to know how to score the ball around the basket. Had he not gotten hurt, his team may have won all their games at the camp.Let the Brian Scalabrine comparison’s began, I know he hears them all the time but he can really play and he’s a very humble player which I like a lot.

13. Dillon Beaver 5′6 PG The most exciting player to watch in the camp. He may handle the ball better than a lot of high school players that Ive seen and he looks like he has it on a string most times and he can shoot the ball and he loves to attack rim with runners off the glass. I really love this young guys’s game.

14. Nick Coffey 6′2 PF/C Fundamental big who does what most young post guys don’t, post strong and never bring the ball down once he gets a rebound. He just always seemed to know where the ball was going to come off and for the most part, he converted offensive rebounds into points. Solid solid post guy but I wonder if he should do some ball handling skill development just in case he doesn’t continue to grow.

15. Owen Lewis 5′10 G/SF Strong player with clamp down defensive ability.
