Class of 2015
2. Terrance Birdsong 6′3 ( Forward Craigmont M.S.) Talk about out of no where and you would be talking about Birdsong. He plays very aggressive and he rebounds the ball better than any forward due to his quick feet and strenght. His improvement over the summer has been drastic going from a player who could hardly make lay-ups to being able to catch and face up and make quick moves for scores around the basket. I don’t think I’ve seen a player progress as much as him over a period of a few months. He has to learn to convert at the free throw line a little better because he gets fouled so much. He also has a tendency to get in foul trouble due to his aggressive play. He sometimes lets emotions get the best of him but his attitude on the court has got much better. If he works on ball handling and shooting the basketball, number 1 maybe in his future.
3. Naba Echols 5′0 (Point Guard Craigmont M.S.) Don’t let the stature fool, Echols is one of the most feared players in his class. Scoring is what Echols can do well. When he’s not getting in the lane for the floater, he’s hitting big 3-pointers in clutch situations. He makes good decisons with the ball and at his best when he’s one on one where he can use his quickness. His stature however does get him in trouble at times as teams often run traps at him virtually rendering him helpless at times. If the ball is not in his hands, he is neutralized making him a non factor. Bigger and stronger players will give him trouble because they can bump him off the ball if they can keep up with him. His talent alone will keep him in the top 10 for years to come.
4. Jalen Winston 5′8 (Guard Lester M.S.) Quick strong guard with the ability to create for others making him a lock as future pg and maybe by the time this class is done, the best on. He can work in the half court set but is better suited in an up tempo style where he can slash to the basket. He is one of the best passers in this class and can penetrate whenever he wants and finish using his athleticism. He has to work on his shooting and not picking up careless fouls but without a doubt, Winston is a player to be reckoned with and he should improve every year.
5. Khalil Spencer 5′10 ( Forward Ridgeway M.S.) Skilled 3-4 type with perimeter skills who has number 1 talent. His footspeed has come with his body maturing thus making him a little quicker than he was a year or two ago. He can turn and face up and get his shot up getting to the basket off the dribble but to me he seems uncomfortable at times with the ball in his hands. He can block shots, rebound and is not afraid of contact. His perimeter jumper must improve in order for him to truly become the small forward that he can be.
6. Dillon Mitchell 5′6 ( Point Guard White Station M.S.) Sharpshooting guard who can make shots all over the floor and get his teammates involved. He is a two sport star (football) but if he sticks with basketball, it could take him to college one day.
7. Dennis Price 5′8 (Forward Ridgeway M.S.) Tough hard nosed player with nice skills around the basket. Is he a 3 or undersized 4? That is the question. Ball handling and getting his own shot may need to become his focus but he has a chance to be a really good player by the time he reaches high school.
8. Chris Hale 5′8 (Guard Unknown) Has a lot of talent but confidence is something that he needs to gain as he heads into the year. Hale can score on the move with a little runner that he has but he doesn’t really shoot the ball well. He’s more of a slasher at this point but he could be a top 5 player with skill development.
9. Jeremiah Martin 5′5 ( Point Guard American Way M.S.) Got a lot of experience last as a part time starter on A-Way’s championship team and proved why he’s a top 1o player in this class. He’s kind of herky jerky with the ball and is better right now as a penetrating point guard. He looks to score when he can and he’s one of the best defenders in his class. He brings his shot from his waist thus making him a unconsistent shooter but that will improve with time.
10.Abraham Austion 6′0 ( Center Unknown) Big and I mean big 5 man who moves surprisingly well for a player his size. He of course is at his best around the basket and clearing out other players and getting rebounds. Austin is another player who has improved a lot of the years but he is another 2-sport player (football) Which sport will he choose.
11.Eric Mcgill 5′6 (Guard Craigmont M.S.) Similar to Dillon Mitchell but his shooting from the 3 maybe a bit better. He sometimes has a tendency to get down on himself when he’s not shooting well which can take him out of games.
12. Jordan Williams 5′7 ( Guard Colonial M.S.) Very underrated player who can score with the best players in this class if he’s given the opportunity. He’s a very saavy player and he’s confident in his ability as a scorer. If he gets time at his middle school, I think he can put up nice numbers.
13. Ernest Palmer 5′0 ( Point Guard Snowden M.S.) Small like Echols but Palmer is a good scorer in his own right. He has a great looking stroke from the outside but sometimes tries to do things that he can’t do right now. Definitely a talent who if he works can over take some of the players above him.
14. Kylan Phillips 5′0 (Point Guard Ridgeway M.S.) Another part of the very good 2015 class at Ridgeway. Phillips is smart with the ball but sometimes overdrives the ball which leads to turnovers. He can make the open jumper but is often at a disadvantage like a lot smaller players because it’s difficult to get his shot off on bigger players. This makes him have to throw shots up at times. He’s a good enough shooter though, that if you don’t defend him well, he can score double digits.
15.Jarvis Morgan 5′5 (Guard Havenview M.S.) Sneaky scoring combo guard who must learn to think the game on the floor. Once this happens, Morgan’s play will take a turn for the better.
