As you can see up top, the Lester Lions and Coach Desmond Merriwether are headed to state despite what happens on Friday with their win over Vance but I saw as dominate a performance on the boards as I’ve seen all year. 5′9 forward, Zleh Randolph had 12 points but absolutely owned the boards with count them, 24 REBOUNDS!!! Not 12, not 15, 24 rebounds in one game. Don’t believe me, I counted them by hand. He got a big rebound and put it in with his team just leading by a slim 3 point margin to make them go up 5 with 1:30 left in the 4th. Not the tallest post player in Middle School but he uses his strong body and I mean strong to position himself and get off the floor quicker than most post. Greg Gardner, who had a game high 14 points hit some big free throws down the stretch and scored on some lay ups to sustain the victory for his team. Once again, congratulations to Lester who will advance to the state in February. Vance guard, Jamarko Franklin led his team with 13 points.

Notes: Vance 5′9 guard Jamarko Franklin could be a big time player. He has sneaky handle and has  a smoothness about him and a scoring ability that I haven’t seen from a lot of guards. He can get to basket when wants to and he plays very unselfishly. 7th grader Chrishun Brown is also another who showed me a glimpse of what he can do. He got into foul trouble in the game but was a little similar to Franklin with to get to the basket with his long frame. If Franklin goes to BTW, he could be getting a big time future player.

Lester’s girls also beat Humes, 63-36 behind Javisha White

Airways boy defeated Southside

Treadwell got disqualified allowing Humes to get the win.
