Middle School Playoffs
Sherwood Advances to Face Craigmont
Behind 24 points by 8th grader Cornelius Sturghill, the Sherwood Archers advanced over a scrappy Hamilton team, 58-52. Both teams combined for 13 turnovers in the 3rd quarter as Hamilton fell behind as many as 10 points but managed to make a run at the end of the 4th. Hamilton guard, Dalvin Foster got a steal and converted a 3 point play to make the score 49-44 with under 3 minutes left but Sturghill who got to the basket whenever he wanted to scored on the next possession. The Wildcats would again have a shot with 11.3 left in the game but a turnover would lead to a free throw by Sturghill and the win for Sherwood. Sebastian Barnes, a 5′11 guard had 13 for the Archers along with Lucious White’s 15 on 3 treys in the first half. Next up for Sherwood, the Craigmont Chiefs.
Notes: I like the play of Dalvin Foster of Hamilton. The 5′7 combo guard can score on the drive and shoot the 3 and finish with hard fouls because of his body stature. I would like to see him use his quickness a little more and utilize separation to create for his nice jumper. Keep Foster in my your mind, he could end up being a really good pg at Hamilton High School. Calvin Bunting is a 6′0 forward with a springs and a lot of athleticism to match. Offensively like most young bigs, he has to get better around the basket and develop a go to shot because a lot of his baskets come on put backs. Could end up being a Nate Rucker type of player.

That’s my guy Dalvin. Me and Coach Greg are proud of you young man. Keep up the hard work. Memphis Warriors ‘09
