Ridgeway Vs. Cordova In State Final At 3:00 pm

The state championship game is set for 3:00 pm at Colonial Middle School today as Cordova will take on Ridgeway for the finale of the season. I think this is will be their fourth  matchup of the year with Cordova winning 3 of the 4 meetings. Ridgeway is riding high and will have a chance to cap off a great second half of the season with their run at the state. Cordova, on the play of Nick Smith and Laron Black have combined to be the areas most lethal duo. Ridgeway’s Khalil Spencer has played like the player that he is capable of being showing his ability to hurt teams in various ways. Their bench productions has increased of late with Kevin Shieds starting some games and Malik Sanders coming off in the bench in some games I’ve seen. I think the key to the game will be, if Black enforces his will and he can stay out of foul troube early, then Cordova has a defnite shot. Ridgeway must find ways to keep Black off the glass, particulary offensively. Key for Ridgeway will be the aforementioned bench. If they can get some quality minutes from Kevin Shields and Javion Hamlett who can hit the 3, they will be hard to beat. I think Malik Sanders has to play big as well. His scoring will be important for his team today if not any other day. The x factor for both teams will be Nick Smith and Sanders. If Smith scores 15-20, Ridgeway loses. If Sanders, gets doube digits, 10-15 points, Cordova loses because Khalil will play well and DJ Price will be a factor as well in keeping Black off the boards. I’ve seen Coach Phillips go deep on his bench with two big guys to eat up minutes, will he do it today? We will see at 3:00.
